The following directions are to help you find information on the "What Happened on Your Birthday?" assignment for Kim Jackson's Speech class.

PROQUEST SEARCH

DO A PROQUEST SEARCH: 

  • If you do this, you will be able to search articles from various national newspapers that were published on the day you were born.
  1. Go to BBCC Library Homepage (http://libguides.bigbend.edu/home)
  2. Find the "Research Help" box in the middle of the page, then select the top link "DATABASES FOR RESEARCH"
  3. In "A-Z Databases", you will see some links to the right under "Popular Databases".  Select the PROQUEST database.
  4. In the Proquest Advanced Search boxes, type the name of the newspaper you would like to look in (Try Los Angeles Times - goes back to 1985, Seattle Times, or New York Times - goes back to 1980) 
  5. In the next box over (Anywhere), select "Publication Title - PUB" from the drop down menu
  6. Check the FULL TEXT box
  7. Go down to the PUBLICATION DATE box and select "Specific Date Range" from drop down menu
  8. Under START type in your birth date and under END type the day after
  9. ​Hit "Search" button to see list of results

Internet Links

NOTE:  The BBCC Library carries the Columbia Basin Herald as far back as 1967. The Washington Post and the New York Times as far back as 1956 on microfilm.  You can access these materials in the library, just ask at the desk.
