PROMPT:
Parenthood
Motherhood
Soft, rounding curves
Bulging belly
Growing. Stretching.
Changing. Breaking.
Miracle-making.
Skin-to-skin
The scent of vanilla
New. Innocent.
Mine.
Small sounds
of hunger
Laid at my breast
Suckle. Sting. Drip.
Broken and bleeding,
Euphoric.
A constant, lifelong struggle:
pain and pleasure,
sorrow and happiness,
confusion and clarity,
guilt and confidence. T
he sense of rightness
and home. Of a calling answered.
Small hand outstretched and seeking
mine for comfort. For strength. For reassurance.
I am her safety; she is my heart.
A kiss. A snuggle. A sigh.
The truest, purest love.
