The ability to display both link-to-source and link resolver links for a citation in Primo VE is now live.
This ability can be enabled by editing the Primo VE view and enabling Display all links in View Online section on the General tab.

Podcast about Spotify (from Oddlots, Bloomberg): Odd Lots: The Real Reason So Many Musicians Are Frustrated By Spotify on Apple Podcasts
This podcast discusses some interesting aspects of Spotify from the content creator's perspective. It isn't directly related to libraries, but it is an example of how vendor practices on the content management side can impact content usage patterns on the consumer side. And also makes me wonder about what models library content vendors use to pay content originators, in cases for the library vendor doesn't actually own the content.
Swank: One the question of how to account for an 'available thru' date for individual portfolios, here is one workaround described by posting on Alma-L:
As a less-than-ideal workaround, assuming your portfolio doesn't have coverage dates, you could enter an end coverage date and use it as an active until date. This will be visible to users in Primo, but that might be ok or even desirable, if you want your users to know when access will end. This is what we do for streaming video titles that are leased for a limited period of time. We only do this for streaming video, which normally don't have coverage dates, so it works ok for us, and I made an Analytics report showing all our streaming video portfolios and their coverage dates that we use to see which portfolios are expiring soon.
I know this is hacky, so feel free to disregard this if it won't work for your situation, but I thought I'd share it in case it could be helpful!

It's clear from casual browsing of the IPEDS dashboard at any institution that physical circulation has experienced a very large decline since the beginning of COVID. From a longer-term, library strategic planning perspective, it's worth considering whether physical circulation will return to prepandemic levels.
In somewhat related news, Big Bend Community College will be closing its physical bookstore, another indication of decreasing demand for content in physical form.

That's the big problem we're running into with videos instructors want to show in class-- DVDs are $10-20 but no one has players. Streaming video of the same thing is 3 figures-- for a 1 year license!!!

We have the same issue with streaming video. We see more demand for streaming video than we do for ebooks. In fact, we get a surprising number students asking for print over ebooks. But, that might also be because faculty in our basic skills department are requiring recreational reading and those students seem to prefer physical books.

We have a "Flex" plan with Swank where we can have either 50 or 75 titles in our portal at any one time, but we can "swap" titles out as needed. It's not cheap but it works the best so far for us. It DOES take a lot of my time to keep titles that everyone needs, by the dates they need them.

Our B&N management of the bookstore has been problematic. They do things like stick extra things like binders and supplies in the list of books in the textbook lookup tool, and make it look like they are required. They also really push their $10/mo Bartlby product which is essentially a papermill/textbook answer service.
