Informal Demo and Discussion of Koha at Clover Park Technical College

Many thanks to Deb Derylak from CPTC for providing us with an overview of their use of Koha since going live in April 2022.

Contents of the video include the following discussion points:

• Patron record screen (and patron record loading screen, if you've implemented it)
• Basic circulation screen(s), with comments (and maybe a look at) about circ rules management and notice management
• Course reserves screen(s) management, if applicable
• Basic cataloging screen(s), with comments about how you're bringing or loading records into Koha. Also, any comments about any ways Koha integrates record sources for easier downloads

As I was chatting with Pearl just now, I realized that I forgot to share something important that folks might be interested in – setting up circulation and fines rules!  We find it infinitely easier in Koha than in Alma.

00:33:16    Kirsti Thomas (Seattle Colleges):    To be fair "Fulfillment" in Alma encompasses a lot more than just Circulation (e.g. digitization requests). We just don't use any of the other non-Circ functions.
00:38:16    Wade Guidry:    Melinda, Bywater does have an ERM offering, CORAL, that is open source code, but not part of the Koha code base. Here's a list of the Bywater supported offerings: https://bywatersolutions.com/products

00:42:29    Dan Moore:    Out of curiosity, how much did Bywater quote out for consulting on implementing and training y'all on Koha? What does that contract contain - support for the future at all, or is there a "go live" date where they sorta cut ya loose?
00:46:02    Amy Herman, Olympic College:    Koha is JUST for the library catalog, correct? You don't have a "discover" layer like Primo, to search catalog and databases at the same time?
00:48:16    Wade Guidry:    Amy, that's right. If you look at the link I included in my response to Melinda, you can see discovery options Bywater supports, including Folio. Reminder, Bywater is an independent consulting and hosting group, not a developer / vendor like ExLibris or SirsiDynix.
00:48:27    Dan Moore:    Is your Koha hosted locally or by Bywater? If it's hosted, do you have SFTP access?
