Could I ask, if you have Course Reserves procedures available online, would you mind sharing the link? I'm working to document our program for an upcoming retirement and would love to model off others' work. TIA!

In addition to your eZProxy issue, we also had issues with losing a library server and support for library self-hosting issues. (Hosting perpetually owned independent films, for example)
From Amy Herman, Olympic College to Everyone 10:11 AM
Yesterday the server that runs the "sync" job for ezproxy stalled and no one knew, so I was locked out of library databases after I updated my campus network password.  There are a lot of fail points.
From Kirsti Thomas (Seattle Colleges) to Everyone 10:11 AM
@Melinda-- are you folks aware that Infobase offers free hosting for up to 10 titles for Films On Demand customers?  That's how we're dealing with the issue (for now).
From Melinda Martin to Everyone 10:13 AM
Thanks Kirsti - Yeah.  I guess I was just thinking if we were discussing future possibilities for the consortia, it might be worth discussing. Especially since most of us don't seem to have dedicated library IT support.
From Kirsti Thomas (Seattle Colleges) to Everyone 10:18 AM
Having a shared institutional repository would be really helpful.
We've never been sorry for moving to cloud-hosted EZProxy. It even got us some gratitude from IT staff for taking that load off them.
From Dan Moore to Everyone 10:18 AM
Same Kirsti
From abby koehler (she/her) to Everyone 10:19 AM
^^I'd get behind centralized proxy server environment (even collectively bargaining for a hosted deal) and some kind of shared repository space. Those two things are enough outside our local capabilities (not for skills, more for access to maintain) and provide so much for access and agency to students and faculty
From Lily Kun (SPSCC) to Everyone 10:20 AM
Same here. Best thing for me is to be able to connect OCLC support with database vendor support to solve access issues instead of needing to be the middle man and making separate calls.
From Ryer Banta Centralia College to Everyone 10:23 AM
Thanks for letting me ramble about the issues around EzProxy and ransomware. It's messy and it's tough to be succint about the situation. Appreciate all the patience and input.
From Laura Staley - Renton Tech to Everyone 10:24 AM
We are all interested, Ryer. We know it could happen to us.
From Dan Moore to Everyone 10:24 AM
Out of curiosity, Ryer, how are y'all helping folks get access to remote content? Are you taking citation requests and then fulfilling via email?
From Kirsti Thomas (Seattle Colleges) to Everyone 10:24 AM
I appreciate you sharing the details. It's helpful to know what's going on.
From Ryer Banta Centralia College to Everyone 10:26 AM
@Dan Right away I created some direct login account with our three biggest vendors - EBSCO, ProQuest, and Gale. We then shared these login details with faculty and students. We also used LibGuides to create a temporary library website, which had a page about this.
From Dan Moore to Everyone 10:27 AM
The vendors were cool with that? Sharing logins has always been so dicey with them I thought
From Ryer Banta Centralia College to Everyone 10:28 AM
Some suggested it. Others didn't raise a fuss given the situation.
From Dan Moore to Everyone 10:28 AM
That's great they were accommodating to it
From Ryer Banta Centralia College to Everyone 10:29 AM
I haven't heard of any issues where too many students are trying to log in at the same time with the same credentials. The landing pages are a bit different, so that can be confusing for users that are familiar with the databases.
From Dan Moore to Everyone 10:33 AM
We just turned off the overdue fines in each of the TOUs, didn't make new ones
when we went fine-free
oh bummer
Maybe... the fines just get deleted and it's a limitation of the system? :-)
From Kirsti Thomas (Seattle Colleges) to Everyone 10:33 AM
You could always tell Spokane Falls that you're changing the TOUs and if they want to keep their fines they'll need to create their out TOUs and Fulfillment rules. ;)
From Dan Moore to Everyone 10:34 AM
+1 Kirsti!
From Melinda Martin to Everyone 10:34 AM
HAHAHA. I would love to do that.
From Cara Beth (she/her) to Everyone 10:44 AM
I've got to leave for another meeting
From Dan Moore to Everyone 10:53 AM
we call em special assignments
good question abby lol
"limitation of the system"!!
From Ryer Banta Centralia College to Everyone 10:54 AM
Cracking up here abby! Thanks!
From Melinda Martin to Everyone 10:57 AM
I have a librarian's meeting. Thank you all so much for your input!
From Kirsti Thomas (Seattle Colleges) to Everyone 10:58 AM
meeting. Ciao!
