BIO:

Tyler Wallace is in his 15th year working at Big Bend Community College. He earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Liberty University and two master’s degrees, one in Mathematics from the University of Houston and one in Mathematics Education from George Fox University. He has taught math for the majority of the years he has been at BBCC and, in September of 2021, he started a TikTok account to connect with his students and create small TikTok and trend videos about math.

Less than a month later, one went viral and now he has over 300K followers, between both TikTok and Instagram combined, and many other viral videos, including one with nearly 15 million views! Outside of TikTok and teaching math, Tyler enjoys providing financial counseling, running half marathons (because he is only half crazy) and touring the world (especially Latin America) with his family.

What is the Passion Project?

What is the Passion Project Showcase?
Big Bend started a quarterly event in Winter 2021 to feature the works of wonder that inspire members of our school community.

Why have a Passion Project Showcase?
At Big Bend, we are fortunate enough to be surrounded by talented and awesome people. Our school is full of faculty, administrators, staff, and students who are experts in a wide variety of areas. Their work is driven by excitement and curiosity, and we want to celebrate these love labors.

On Thursday February 1 beginning at 4:30 p.m., Big Bend will host our ninth Passion Project Showcase. Hear from instructor Dr. Tyler Wallace, our favorite Mathemagician by day and social media influencer by night!

Join us in the Masto Conference Center (ATEC) from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. for the Great Viking Cookie Bake-Off! (Dr. Wallace is well-known around campus for his scrumptious chocolate chip cookies, which make an appearance at potlucks and other events from time to time. We want to honor that by hosting a cookie bake-off!) Snack on some cookies while you mingle with your colleagues and vote for your favorite recipe!

Do you love to bake?
Throw your hat in the ring and sign up to bring a batch of your best cookies to the event for judging! E-mail tiffanyf@bigbend.edu if you plan to participate in the bake-off!

Dr. Wallace’s presentation will start at 5:00 p.m.

Please invite your students, colleagues, friends, neighbors and BBCC curious! We hope to see you there!
