PDFs
Accessible PDFs are designed to work with assistive technology, such as screen readers, text-to-speech programs, and braille displays:
- Download the pdf or work with the original.
- Open the PDF in Acrobat
- Menu at top left
- Scroll down to Document Properties
- Description Tab, Add a title, subject, and author (at least title)
- Advanced Tab, set the document language
- Okay
- Select All tools > Prepare for accessibility
- Select Automatically tag PDF
- Review the tags, make sure your doc has a Heading 1 tag <H1> for the document, and that Tables have a Header row or column at minimum (see more below in Tables section)
- Add Alternate text
- Save.
- Upload the remediated file using the Ally Tool Browse, or Drag and Drop.
